That was an excellent read. Seriously, anything that can make a NASCAR race shorter is genius in my book.

this was verified when champ car ran at texas world its only time ever...or tried. They cancelled the race when drivers in practice started getting dizzy spells from maintaining 5g for large portions of a lap. All but one driver reported that. The much slower IRL came in and raced later on, successfully. But they were about 300hp less too...

As it turns out, we need inertial dampeners for literally anything cool to actually be possible. Oh no, our lack of any decent solution for dealing with acceleration stresses isn't just buggering up your dreams for Star Trek-style starships any more: WipeOut-style hover racers just became pointless.

...

Man, physics hates me.

... and it looks like Jeff Gordon has collided with a relativistic proton!

The track is littered with mesons, exotic particles, and a few more newly-created drivers.

Sometimes I don't enjoy xkcd (and the what if s) so much anymore. This is not one of the times.

There's a cool little SciFi series of books that had a neat solution to this (can't remember what books they are though).

In the future where biomechanical surgery is much more advanced, people get little membranes placed between and around their vital organs to support and protect them against crushing forces, and little valves and auxiliary pumps placed into the blood vessels to control surge caused by g forces.

Would be neat to have that sort of thing :)

I bought the xkcd What If? book. I recommend it.
